エレクトリック音楽の進化とソフトウェアに傾倒しつつある電子音楽制作、演奏をとりまく実情の中で、そのニーズと期待に応える存在として人気を博するモ ジュラーシンセサイザー。我々はその秘めた可能性、魅力をアピールし、日本におけるモジュラーシンセサイザーの普及を志しています。実際に最先端のモジュラーシ ンセサイザーの開発している、海外のメーカー、開発者を招き、スポンサー出展していただいています。会場では来場者と直接のやりとりを通して、最先端のモ ジュラーシンセサイザーの技術をシェアする場となり、日本初上陸やめったにお目にかかれない商品、最新の製品まで具体的に触れて、ブースによって直接交渉、購入する事も可能です。プロアマを問わず演奏者、リスナーを増やし、シーンの拡大を目指している当フェスティバルも３年目を迎え、各社スポンサー様、モジュラーシンセファンの方々からもたくさんの応援、ご支援をいただいております、ありがとうございます！今年は東京の翌週に京都でもモジュフェスを開催です！

Peter Zinovieff（1933年）はEMSシンセサイザーの創設、開発で有名なイギリスのエンジニア、発明家である。EMSシンセサイザーは非常に高い評 価を受け多方面から重宝されており、Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerkを含む重要なアーティストに使用されている。1966~67年、Delia Derbyshire、Brian Hodgsonと共にUnit Delta Plus（電子音楽を創造、プロモーションをする組織）に所属し、今も尚エレクトロニックミュージックの作曲者として活動している。前向きで柔軟な考えを 持ち、電子音楽、シンセサイザー技術への幅広い知識と深い理解への感銘的な洞察を与えてくれるためにこのフェスティバルに参加してくれることは、とても栄 誉あることである。

1969年シカゴ生まれ。ジャンルを越えた活動でJohn Fahey, Stereolab, Faust, Sonic Youthなどプロデューサー、Derek Bailey,坂田明との即興音楽、Fennesz, Oren Ambarchiと電子音楽、並行して２５年間のソロ活動。2004年に《Wilco/A ghost is born》のプロデューサーとしてグラミー賞を受賞。映画作品として、ヴェルナー・ヘルツォーク、オリヴィエ・アサイヤス、若松孝二の作品の音楽を担当。 映画監督としても活動し、2004年と2006年にはホイットニー・ビエンナーレで上映されている。

作曲家 / シンセサイザー・アーティスト。1932年東京生まれ。慶応義塾大学在学中から作曲家として多彩な分野で活躍をはじめ、74年にはシンセサイザーによる 「月の光」を発表してビルボード誌の第1位を獲得し、さらに日本人として初めてグラミー賞にノミネート。以後発表するアルバムは次々に全世界で空前のヒッ トとなる。その後、多数のNHK大河ドラマや山田洋次監督作品で音楽を担当。2011年からは「ISAO TOMITA PROJECT」が始動。「惑星」や「月の光」など、過去の名作をリメイク＆サラウンド化した完全版が日本コロムビアより継続的にリリースされている。 2011年1月に朝日賞受賞。さらに12年11月には、宮沢賢治の作品世界を題材にし、ソリストに “初音ミク”を起用したことでも話題の「イーハトーヴ交響曲」の初演が行われ、全世界的な注目を集め、2014年、CD、Blu-ray化し異例のヒット 作品となった。

cEvin Key (1961年) カナダ人のミュージシャン。かの有名なインダストリアルバンドSkinny Puppy結成当初のメンバーであり、インダストリアルロック、エレクトロインダストリアルというジャンルにおいて真の先駆者。事実、初期Nine inch nailsの作品が影響を受けたように、昨今のハードエレクトロニックアーティストの多くがSkinny Puppyからの芸術的影響を引き合いに出すだろう。彼の別プロジェクト、Download, PlatEAU, Doubting Thomas, Cyberaktif, Hilt, Tear Gardenも同様だ。Keyはカリフォルニア拠点のレコードレーベルSubconscious Communications（音楽家集団、リミックスチーム、３２トラックデジタルスタジオ、アナログシンセサイザーコレクション）の単独オーナー兼オ ペレーターである。

タイ、バンコクを拠点に活動するサウンドクリエーター。NYにてサウンドエンジニアリングを勉強後、93年にバンコクに移住する。97年に日本に帰国、 NYの学校でクラスメートだったNumbに再会しRevirthに参加、2000年に12inchシングル”Hacked”をHanumand名義でリ リースする。2003年に再度バンコクに移住し、SO::ON Dry FLOWERというレーベルを立ち上げ、若くて才能のあるローカルアーティストの作品のリリースやコンサートの主催などを定期的に行っている。また作曲 家、サウンドデザイナーとしてPen-ek Ratanaruang、Apichatpong Weerasethakul、Aditya Assaratなどの映画作品に音を提供している。2008年にSOLというアートスペースをオープンし、若手アーティストの作品の展示やライブイベント などを開催している。

1990 年代半ばから、エレクトロミュージックのクリエーター・ライブパフォーマーとして活動し、Greg Hunter、Makyo、Dr.Atomo、Johna Sharp、藤原大輔など様々なアーティストとのコラボーレションや即興LIVEを行いジャンルを 越えて活躍してきた。最近ではGreg Hunterとのデュオ、Wåveshåperも世界的に好評。「Hataken」名義では Bandcampにて７枚のアルバム／EPをリリース。Soundcloudでも多くの支持を集めてい る。また、2012年のBoom Festivalで６時間のライブを成功させて以来、Ozora Festival、Sonica Dance Fes などヨーロッパ圏のフェスティバルや、アメリカ・カナダ圏のフェスにも出演。その経験に裏打ちされたシンセサイザー奏法と卓越したサウンド構築でハー ドウェアを駆使したライブを披露しつづける彼はシーンにますます欠かせない存在として国内外のミュージシャンからリスペクトされている。2013年よりTokyo Festival of ModularをDave Skipperと共に主催してきている。

●BEFACO EURORACK SDIY WORKSHOP

Build your own Eurorack modules from kits with the help of Befaco Team.
No experience needed, so these workshops are suitable from beginners to experts.
VERY LIMITED places. Please reserve a place before the end of March.

Location and Time: 10:00 AM - 17:00 PM @ Salon Shima-Uma (directly above SuperDeluxe)

Hands on workshop: build your own synth modules on eurorack format. We provide all the necessary components to build your device from scratch. Each participant builds her/his modules during the workshop.
Workshop structure: this is not a “linear” workshop with a tight schedule. Depending on the module or modules you want to make it will take more or less time. Most modules can be finished in one working session, so attendants can organize their schedule depending on this. You can come just one day, or two mornings to do one module. Or spend both days with us and build two or even three modules! Also if you are skilled can finish quicker or make more modules in the same time.

Target audience: People interested in modular synthesis, experimentation, DIY, performance, sound. Language: English / Spanish. Japanese translator on request.
Material Costs: No Fee, just pay for the kits you build. Kits include PCB and all electronic parts.
Required skills: interest and patience.
Required materials: Fine tip soldering iron less than 25w (if possible). solder wire.

Russell Haswell (b.1970) is a restlessly forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary artist, performer and curator born and based in England. With a background steeped in computer music, black metal, noise, techno, free-stye and solo improvisation, his practice is renowned for broaching the extremities of visual and sonic arts. He’s performed with Aphex Twin, Gescom, Pan Sonic, and Masami Akita (Merzbow), among others, and worked with Florian Hecker on Iannis Xenakis’ UPIC system in their Haswell & Hecker duo, whose ‘Blackest Ever Black’ (Warner Classics) LP is widely considered a milestone of modern electronic music composition. He recently completed a European tour with Japanese noise/post-music legend PAIN JERK.

Peter Zinovieff (b.1933) is a respected British engineer and inventor, most notable for his role as co-founder and developer of EMS Synthesizers. EMS synthesizers are highly prized and sought-after instruments, and have been used by many significant artists including Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, and Kraftwerk. In 1966-67 Zinovieff was part of Unit Delta Plus (an organisation to create and promote electronic music) along with Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson, and he is still active today as a composer of electronic music. Open-minded and forward-thinking, it is an immense honour to have Mr.Zinovieff join this festival to give us eloquent insight into his wide knowledge and deep understanding of synthesizer technology and electronic music.

Born 1969 in Chicago, O’Rourke has been an active musician and producer across improvised music, electronic music and beyond genre for over 25 years, working with such artists as John Fahey, Stereolab, Faust, Sonic Youth, Derek Bailey, Akira Sakata, Fennesz, Oren Ambarchi, and many more. In 2004 he won a Grammy Award for his production of Wilco’s “A Ghost is Born.” He has also scored films by Werner Herzog, Olivier Assayas, Shinji Aoyama, Koji Wakamatsu and others. His own short films have been part of the 2004 and 2006 Whitney Biennial and the 2005 Rotterdam Film Festival.

Isao Tomita (born 1932), often known simply as Tomita, is a Japanese music composer, regarded as one of the pioneers of electronic music and space music, and as one of the most famous producers of analog synthesizer arrangements. In addition to creating note-by-note realizations, Tomita made extensive use of the sound design capabilities of his instrument, using synthesizers to create new sounds to accompany and enhance his electronic realizations of acoustic instruments. He also made effective use of analog music sequencers and featured futuristic science fiction themes, while laying the foundations for synth-pop music and trance-like rhythms. Many of his albums are electronic versions and adaptations of famous classical music pieces. He also received four Grammy Award nominations for his album Snowflakes Are Dancing in 1974.

cEvin Key (b.1961) is a Canadian musician and founding member of the luminary industrial music band Skinny Puppy, true pioneers of industrial rock and electro-industrial genres. In fact, most of today’s hard electronic artists will cite Skinny Puppy as a key artistic influence, even inspiring the very first Nine Inch Nails recordings. In addition to his work with Skinny Puppy, Key’s other projects include Download, PlatEAU, Doubting Thomas, Cyberaktif, Hilt, and Tear Garden. Key is the sole owner and operator of Subconscious Communications, a California-based record label, musicians collective, remix team, 32-track digital studio and analogue synthesizer collection.

Koichi Shimizu is a Bangkok based sound creator.Shimizu studied audio engineering in NY and moved to Bangkok for the first time in 1993. He came back to Japan in 1997 and joined Revirth, released his first and only 12inch single “Hacked” in 2000 under the name Hanumand. In 2003, Shimizu moved back to Bangkok again and set up music label called SO::ON Dry FLOWER. He has been releasing CD of unique local artists and organizing concert constantly.Shimizu is also known as a music composer and sound designer for Thai film, he has worked with directors such as Pen-ek Ratanaruang, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Aditya Assarat and more. Since 2008, he has been running open art space called SOL, space is used for art exhibition, workshop, live event etc.

Hataken is an Electronic musician and producer from Japan with a span of worldwide live performances throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, specialising in both analogue synthesizers and software. Active since the early 80s, Hataken has collaborated with renowned producers from all over the globe including Greg Hunter, Gio Makyo, Richard Sharpe of the Shamen (as Ken Machines), Jonah Sharp, Move D, DJ Olive, Dr. Atomo (as Belotone), and Gunshae’s Lady Eve, as well as with many jazz and traditional musicians. Quartzhead, Hataken’s improvisational electronic jazz group with saxophonist Daisuke Fujiwara, plays regularly in Tokyo and was a featured artist at the 2008 SXSW festival. Reality Sandwich, Hataken’s duo with Masashi Kitazato (Zavtone/Aura-Soma mobile), is a spiritual concept unit for visuals and music. Hataken was the featured chill-out artist at Portugal’s BOOM Festival, performing LIVE for 6 hours straight in 2013, and has also performed at Sonica and Ozora festivals.
